The headline should have been “Helle and the Gods” frustrate VCR.

Helle was good, real good, but the Force was with the Jets last nite. VCR could have easily had 3 goals or more without divine intervention.

Posts, crossbars and goaline scrambles but nice to get some bounces our way.

I liked Wheelers challenge, Virtanen was having nothing to do with Wheeler.

Niku looked much much better last nite as well and seems to be finding a groove.

Great win but giving up 40+ shots against a team like the Canucks is why the Jets are in trouble this year. They can't expect Helly and the posts to bail them out every game. Now that Gallant has been fired he is a great option to replace Maurice at the end of the season so the Jets could have a coach that can teach an actual defensive system and knows how to use young players properly.

Coaches fired this year:
Laviollete
Babcock
Gallant
Deboer

and to a lesser extent Bill Peters.

The above four actually took teams to the Stanley Cup final or have won the cup.

Paul Maurice though is the Teflon don, nothing happens to him no matter how poorly he assesses talent or coaches.

Gallant would be a great coach for the Jets, this team needs to play offense first to win, not this grind it out nonsense they currently play.

Helle leads the league in shots against.

As for your second point, why is Gallant canned twice now is short order? Personality clashing with upper mgmt.? Player issues?

I think he ran into upper mgmt personality clash issues with Florida where they unceremoniously gave him a duffle bag and a taxi voucher amidst a snow storm. Did that happen again in Vegas?

I’ll say it again, I’d like Hawerchuck (when he’s healthy) or Gronberg (Swedish coach) as the Jets next coach. Sick and tired of all the recycled guys.

Maybe Gallant told Vegas management if they don't do something about the goaltending the team is going nowhere and management didn't want to hear it so that was it for him.

That is coaching in the NHL. Its all about re-cycling old coaches, get fired here, re-hired there.

At least when Toronto had enough of re-cycled Babcock, they went with their AHL coach for a change up. I mean, I would take a guy like Barry Trotz or a Quenville any day but all these other guys, its just a revolving door of recycling.

Exactly UJ. He's the 2nd longest serving coach right now, and what do the Jets have to show for it but 1 great regular season and playoff run.

One more thought I would like to throw out there is trading for Vladislav Namestnikov. He is a UFA this offseason and would come relatively cheap, maybe a 5th round pick. Namestnikov has shown that he can play with elite players like he did with Stamkos and Kucherov in Tampa Bay. He is also a 50.5% average lifetime Corsi.

He would be an ideal low risk, high reward guy the Jets could experiment with and if he does not pan out in the top 9, could be a good 4th line guy.

Just some Ultimate thoughts....

A trade like this, giving up a 5th or 6th rounder is the only type of acquisition I’d be in favour of this season. I’d rather sell!!!

Next 10 games are important. At that time we should have a pretty decent idea whether we're buyers or sellers. I'm thinking "sell" but hope that I'm wrong.

Yea, player like Namestnikov for 5th or 6th rounder I could live with. But might that cut into the ice time off Roslovic, Appleton, Harkins? Not sure that is good - guess depends if we're making the playoffs or not? Rather play Roslovic than Nammy any day.

So basically for me, making the playoffs - Nammy maybe; missing the playoffs - Nammy, no! Injuries to top forwards could tilt the field.

Yeah I am sure that 6 minutes a game that Harkins and Appelton are getting is really helping with their development. Lowry needs his ice time cut and Namestnikov could be a viable option with Ehlers and Wheeler.

This is a year where the west is wide open and I do believe with proper coaching and a move or two this team could win the cup this year! This talk about missing the playoffs with this forward group and goalie just shows how pathetic management and coaching are.

Adam Lowry The most we would probably get for him is bottom pairing defenseman or a third round pick.

Another option on the 2nd line was why I was saying they should make a move for Athanasiou but a guy like Namestnikov would cost less to acquire, it'd also push some guys down which would hopefully imorove the 3rd line and maybe they'd start contributing a bit or Namestnikov would be a good 3rd line player.

I also don't agree with Jets fans who have this mentality of 'they should wait to find out whether they'll be buyers or sellers before making any moves', why not make a minor move or two and try to make the playoffs rather then just going with what you got and hoping for the best.
I mean is a 4th or later round pick so valuable that we're worried about wasting it on say a Namestnikov if they made a trade and then ended up missing? A pick that'd be at least 3 or more seasons(if not longer) from contributing cause that's what we're talking about... Lol

Not sure if they have the cap space for any trades though with the Buff situation not being settled yet.

Jets have lots of cap space. Even if Byfuglien comes back, his entire contract is going on LTIR, and Bryan Little due to missing half the season will half his salary on LTIR. Currently the Jets should theoretically have close to 6 million in cap space for this season.

Also Jets management has done a terrific job of convincing Jets fans that the only times trades can be made is on trade deadline day. It’s the only thing that would explain why some fans want to wait until the deadline to make moves.

By the way I really like the Athanasiou suggestion, it’s something I too have wanting for the last year.
